267 - Headway!

The header went in tonight!!!

It was pretty harrowing at times... but it is finally in. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I didn't do much but I'm still exhausted, and Mike is walking like an old man so I'm sure he'll feel great tomorrow. :)

You can see the chimney where it comes up from the basement.

Mike and Tom disconnected the light switches and outlets and capped them with wire nuts before Mike pulled the wires up into the attic.

I must have been distracting.

Another pile of drywall... the house is still relatively clean at this point... it won't last long.

The temporary bracing to support the roof when the current supports come out.

Installing another one in the kitchen.

A moment of cuteness.

Removing the wall studs.

I had to go to the basement to grab something. This is the desk Mike sanded down. It was my great aunt's, then my dad's and now it is mine. Crazy how they built the drawers out of several different types of wood. It reminds me a little of that fruit stripe gum I chewed as a kid. It's crazy but I kinda like it.

Bo was distressed by all the noise. And he threw up shortly after I took this pic.

Almost opened up.

Trying to watch the commotion but almost asleep.

Artsy flower shot. I love the huge white daffodils. We only have a small patch of them but they are gorgeous.

Trying to look innocent

Bo laughs at their first attempt to get the header in.

Then returns to eating his rawhide.

Then he laughs at their second, third, fourth and fifth attempts.

Six tries? Bwahahaaha

Wait. Is it up yet?

Walter stayed out all night last night. I tried to get him to come in but he didn't seem to want to. I gave him three more chances before I went to bed. He slept most of the day today.

Trimming the ends a bit

Almost done, just one brace to take out.

Anticipatory shot.

Horrible photo but I give up. I was too tired to make a better attempt.

So now the pantry can be built! Woot! I am grateful to Tom for giving up his Saturday to help us out. And of course, to Mike... he worked hard for several days throughout this project.

266 - Brrr

I wish these seasons would make up their minds. I don't know when to start planting stuff in the ground. I assume the future seedlings in my greenhouse are going to do okay but I'm glad I didn't transplant my sycamore yet.

Two buddies sighting in their rifles. I don't know why but I think it's adorable. Okay, I do know why - it reminds me of those greeting cards where the two little boys have their fishing poles, only this is the grownup version of it.

Another cool moon. I wish I had taken my camera to the store with me that night because the sunset up the road was amazing. It's not really feasible to always have my camera on me but sometimes I wish I did just take it everywhere... I have regrets...

This was a dryer ball that we used to help the hot air circulate in the little washer/dryer combo we had in the rv. Since we don't use that anymore I figured it looked a lot like a dog toy. And Bo concurs.

But he prefers Bally.

You can see Bo-Bo's bo-bo. I don't know if he ran into something when he was romping around the house or the fields/woods, but we've been putting hydrogen peroxide and triple antibiotic ointment on it. It's mostly a nasty looking scab at this point.

He was watching Mike taunt him with Bally.

And finally grew depressed that Bally had found another... or maybe this was after he ran around and was just exhausted. I can't remember.

He started barking and growling and pitching a fit this evening and Mike found deer. This is not a picture of them, but I decided to try out the night mode on my camera. Granted there is some light from the porch, but it's still pretty impressive.

Well... I guess that's all for now...

265 - A case of the Mondays

It's grey and drizzly out so not much is going on. Mike's setting up a Facebook Group. We're taking turns playing with Bo. The kittens are napping.

And other than that, I'm just trying to figure out what to make for dinner.

Blah.

264 - Au Natural

This is not just another Bo picture, it's also proof that we need to clean the windows.

Moo cow! I love the black moo cows, they're so purdy.

Da moon.

Bird in flight. Was going to take another boring "bird siting on a branch" photo, but Bo and Mike walked out the door and the bird took off. Happy accidents.

Bloomin' daffodils. It's a gorgeous sea of yellow out there, and they smell delicious. More happy accidents.

Boring bird on a branch photo - but with our barn in the background.

Trees are starting to bud out. Spring is coming!!!!

Fungi

I don't know why, but we like moss.

Cute little purple flowers.

More fungi

My little feng shui area. I think I might get more daffodils to make it more rounded at the top, but it's pretty. I see why people get fresh flowers, it really does make ya happy (especially free ones).

We explored our land this afternoon. I've been wanting to hike up the other side of the creek but kept putting it off... Bo ran off, so we went looking for him and decided to just keep going. This wood was pretty.

Bootsie showing off his climbing prowess.

Huge tree, or what remains of it.

Our neighbor's getaway.

Pretty woods

Oddly enough, the kittens come when they're called, and they stick to us like glue when we go for a walk. The dog? Not at all.

Another hollow tree. The only big trees we have are diseased or hollow. The rest were taken down and sold. Grrr.

Perfect woodpecker residence.

Weathervane at a local gun shop we visited.

More moss porn.

Succulents?

So after we trekked up and down the Scotland-worthy hills, we came back in, retrieved our dog (potato chip bag to the rescue) and cider has never been so refreshing. It's only 72, but after that kind of workout it starts to feel a bit warm.
